Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Overall Zoom is a good solution.""The solution is great for scanning servers.""A valuable feature of the solution is that it is easy to understand.""The initial setup is very straightforward.""The trial version is very good for testing whether it will suit your needs.""Tenable Nessus has a good performance, is very user-friendly, and is easy to use.""The automatic scanner and scheduler are pretty cool.""The plug-in text information is quite useful."

"Tenable SC is good for reporting and alerting. The filtering feature is also very valuable. Its integration with multiple vendors is quite good. It can be integrated with SIEM solutions and PAM solutions such as Thycotic, which is very helpful.""This product has the best results in terms of the lowest number of false-positives and false-negatives.""Their overall cost of service is pretty good.""The feature we've liked most recently was being able to take the YARA rules from FireEye and put them into Tenable's scan for the most recent SolarWinds exploit. That was really useful.""It's a very useful tool.""The solution is one of the most, if not the most, stable product available.""Very customizable with a lot of templates.""The scans are the most valuable aspect of this solution."

Cons
"Remediation needs improvement.""We'd like to see more integration potential within the solution.""In terms of what could be improved, I would say its reporting portion.""The reports are okay, but the interface is a bit difficult to navigate in some cases.""The price could be reduced.""They need more flexible pricing.""The solution could improve by having better integration with different vendors' IPS solutions. The ACLs and IPS policies signatures should be enabled based on the results of Tenable Nessus automatically, we currently have to do it manually which is very time-consuming. It has done a good job integrating with Fortinet but we would like it to be better integrated with other solutions that we have.""It wasn't very clear how the scripts are running the scans. There's information about the script but it's not straightforward. The script information for each of the plugins should be available, but it doesn't give us straightforward direct information about how it was executed. That needs to be more clear."

"The GUI could be improved to have all concerns and priorities use the same GUI, allowing them to see all tickets, assign vulnerabilities, and assign variation failures to each member of their team.""I will say it's a lot slower compared to an MS scan. It takes so much longer, so the performance could definitely be worked on.""The biggest issue I have with the solution is when I'm using the scanning it picks up the original DNS of that device. That means, before we image it and actually change the DNS to something within our company structure, it'll just be random numbers and letters and Tenable will stick to that DNS for a long time.""The pricing is reasonable, but this could be brought down more aggressively, such as we see with Rapid7, Tenable SC's main competitor.""There is not much room for improvement. However, there should be a guide that describes the step-by-step procedures for doing tasks. Otherwise, training is required from a senior guy to a junior guy.""Current web page needs improvement, slows down processes.""The reporting needs a lot of work on the template.""The integration is very good, although it still needs to improve."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Nowadays, your vulnerability applications are going to be kind of pricey because lots of them, including Rapid7, are based upon a base price, but then they add in the nodes. That's where they get you. If you're a big network, obviously, you need to scan everything. Therefore, it's going to be costly. The risk and insurance money associated with having ransomware on my networks is going to cost me more money, time, and marketing than the price of the tool. That's why I'm speaking only as an information security officer to security operations. This is the tool that is there in my toolbox to say whether we vulnerable or not. At this point, I don't care about how much it costs my company to have it because if I wasn't able to report it and we got ransomware, then who cares? I'm probably going to be out of business because it happened. That's why I don't care about the price. I have it, and I could use it effectively and do my report. At the end of the day, even if we get ransomware, as long as I reported it, followed my protocol, and put in the change, irrespective of whether it was ignored or denied, I did my job."
  • "We pay approximately $2,500 on a yearly basis."
  • "We have a subscription, the licensing fees are paid yearly, and I am using the latest version."
  • "We incurred a single cost for a perpetual license, although I cannot comment on the price as this is above my management level."
  • "The price is reasonable."
  • "In general, it is extremely expensive."
  • "The price of the solution is reasonable."
  • "One problem with Tenable is its pricing policy. Optimal results can be achieved with Greenbone Solutions which has much more friendly pricing policies."

  • "We pay around 60,000 on a yearly basis."
  • "The price can start at €10,000 ($13,000 USD) for between 500 and 1,000 assets, and the price can climb into the millions as more assets are added."
  • "I use a local license to perform penetration testing and I'm pretty happy with everything when it comes to pricing and licensing."
  • "Though reasonable, the main competitor of Tenable SC, Rapid7, offers a more aggressive and better priced product."
