Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"If configured, Firepower provides us with application visibility and control.""The dashboard is the most important thing. It provides good visibility and makes management easy. Firepower also provides us with good application visibility and control.""We get the Security Intelligence Feeds refreshed every hour from Talos, which from my understanding is that they're the largest intelligence Security Intelligence Group outside of the government.""I have access to the web version of Cisco Talos to see the reputation of IP addresses. I find this very helpful. It provides important information for my company to obtain the reputation of IP addresses. The information in Talos is quite complete.""Provides good integrations and reporting.""Its Snort 3 IPS has better flexibility as far as being able to write rules. This gives me better granularity.""One of the nice things about Firepower is that you can set it to discover the environment. If that is happening, then Firepower is learning about every device, software operating system, and application running inside or across your environment. Then, you can leverage the discovery intelligence to get Firepower to select the most appropriate intrusion prevention rules to use for your environment rather than picking one of the base policies that might have 50,000 IPS rules in it, which can put a lot of overhead on your firewall. If you choose the recommendations, as long as you update them regularly, you might be able to get your rule set down to only 1,000 or 1,500, which is a significant reduction in a base rule set. This means that the firewall will give you better performance because there are less rules being checked unnecessarily. That is really useful.""There are no issues that we are aware of. It does its job silently in the background."

"The filtering is excellent.""Support has improved dramatically since their separation from Dell.""The DPI-SSL is the solution's most valuable aspect. It's handy.""The basic firewall rules of the solution are great.""The most valuable feature is the sandbox.""The prices are similar to other vendors and the support is good.""It is able to fulfill my requirements. It protects our network environment. It has control over IPS, signatures, and it can also manage bandwidth and mapping. It is also stable and has good support.""This product has kept us safe and we haven't had any breaches."

"The performance has been very good. Overall, the solution is quite stable.""The installation is straightforward and took approximately 30 minutes.""The most valuable feature is the user-friendly navigation.""We like their interface very much. It's pretty easy to use.""The most valuable features are security and technical support.""Ease of management and the VPN integration.""Content filtering and application rules are the most valuable features. It is also easy to configure.""I like the firewall product, the security server, and the content filter."

Cons
"The initial setup can be a bit complex for those unfamiliar with the solution.""We're getting support but there's a big delay until we get a response from their technical team. They're in the USA and we're in Africa, so that's the difficulty. When they're in the office, they respond.""On the VPN side, Firepower could be better. It needs more monitoring on VPNs. Right now, it's not that good. You can set up a VPN in Firepower, but you can't monitor it.""I believe that the current feature set of the device is very good and the only thing that Cisco should work on is improving the user experience with the device.""There is limited data storage on the appliance itself. So, you need to ship it out elsewhere in order for you to store it. The only point of consideration is around that area, basically limited storage on the machine and appliance. Consider logging it elsewhere or pushing it out to a SIEM to get better controls and manipulation over the data to generate additional metrics and visibility.""Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized.""One feature I would like to see, that Firepower doesn't have, is email security. Perhaps in the future, Cisco will integrate Cisco Umbrella with Firepower. I don't see why we should have to pay for two separate products when both could be integrated in one box.""Cisco makes horrible UIs, so the interface is something that should be improved."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons →

"The product has a lot of bugs, actually. We are facing some issues with this product. The DPI SSL feature which is there, it is not working properly.""We're not particularly fond of the way it generally performs. We are finding ourselves rebooting often. There are freeze-ups and that kind of thing. The stability needs to improve exponentially.""In terms of improvement, features like App Control do not work properly""They are not ready for managed security services. Their Cloud GMS product is weak, barely out of beta (buggy).""Some of the configurations could be better.""Vendor support needs improvement. The frequency of time and support should be increased.""The reporting feature could be better because most of the companies want to have the analytics included, which is something that you have to buy separately.""I would like U.S.-based technical support."

More SonicWall NSa Cons →

"Sonic Analyzer could be improved. It's difficult to manage and not very intuitive.""In general, the company needs to think contingently and integrate more security options.""Its reporting can be improved. Currently, we cannot directly get the user names. It only shows the IP, which makes it a bit confusing because we need to use the IP to find the user. If we could directly get the name of the user, it would be better.""It could probably be more user-friendly, and it could be more scalable with releases and subscriptions.""Its pricing can be better. It is very expensive.""The log sections could be done more clearly.""We have experienced some issues with SonicWall TZ and they are lacking some advanced features other vendors have.""Although the pricing is good, it could always be lower. If we get to pay less, we're happier."
