Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The advantages of SCOM are that it is definitely user friendly and a more appropriate solution for what we need.""It's easy to use.""I like the historical reporting of observer metrics.""It is a user-friendly product that requires almost no maintenance.""We have found the scalability capabilities to be okay.""Because it's Windows-based, it actually reports quite well. It reports everything you can think of on the Windows server and allows you to monitor anything. It's excellent for those in the Windows world as it's very good at it.""Availability monitoring is the feature I have found most valuable, as well as the capacity and ability to send notifications.""It is very good at monitoring Microsoft Server."

"They have instructional videos and other information available on the site to assist you with learning it.""For managing the traffic, it provides you a response about whether the traffic is down, up, or heavy, which is a very powerful feature. It has a good response time. We have been using this solution for many years, and we don't have any problem with this solution.""The integration with other SolarWinds products is good.""What I like the most is the bandwidth assessment.""The most valuable feature is the alarm that is set up to trigger based on bandwidth utilization.""The monitoring is perfect, showing you the details for the utilization of resources and network bandwidth.""The most valuable feature is the ability to look for any increases in bandwidth over time so that we can plan before it becomes critical.""The most valuable features are the bandwidth analyzer, the monitoring, the network analyzer, it has overall good performance, and an easy deployment."

Cons
"I would like more customized reports. People should have some customization option on the dashboards for whenever they put multiple lists into it. Beyond customizing the content, there should be the ability to customize the colors so that they can engage some priority and mark challenges separately.""The management of the servers could be better.""It'll help if they can provide real-time or closer to real-time monitoring.""They can focus more on cloud monitoring instead of on-premise monitoring. We should be able to monitor cloud-related applications. They can include this feature in the next release. If it is in the cloud, we can have scalability by using Kubernetes. The container is containerized, packaged, and managed using Kubernetes. This feature is not there in SCOM. Going forward, if they can focus on that, it will be great.""The solution should be more user-friendly and offer a better user interface.""The dashboard features are not user-friendly for our management team, only for the technical department.""It would be a much better product if Microsoft provided management packs with the product.""System Center just provided upgrade and update features for Windows clients, and Windows systems, and did not support Linux, Android, or iOS, and other operating systems. They need to provide better integration with other operating systems if they don't already."

More SCOM Cons →

"I would like to see more artificial intelligence capabilities.""It's scalable, but it could be simplified because it's not completely easy.""The pricing is expensive.""This solution does not do a very good job when I am trying to look deeper into my internal network, in particular with respect to individual ports.""Technical support could be improved with quicker response times.""I would like to see better customization capabilities.""If your network is on SolarWinds, and you notice that the traffic is bad because it says "user downloading a heavy file," it doesn't indicate which endpoint is downloading those heavy files. SolarWinds doesn't have the tools to be able to handle this kind of situation. You can just notice through your network device that the traffic is becoming overwhelming or heavy, but you cannot go inside and get more details related to the endpoint where it is happening. We would like SolarWinds to be able to handle this kind of situation and even manage the traffic inside a network from the endpoint to the network device. These would be good enhancements. It is mostly stable. The problem comes only when we want to add another SolarWinds model. SolarWinds has so many models, and sometimes when we want to add other models on the platforms that are reserved for our firm, it freezes. When this happens, we have to create a new VM for that model.""The Atlas module that is used for building the network map is very bad."
