Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is SaaS hosted. That makes it very convenient to use. There is no initial time needed to set up an application. Scanning is a matter of minutes. You just log in, create an application profile, associate a security configuration, and that's about it. It takes 10 minutes to start. The lack of initial lead time or initial overhead to get going is the primary advantage.""Integrations into our developer's IDE (Greenlight) and the DevOps Pipeline SAST / SourceClear Integrations has particularly increased our time to market and confidence.""Their dashboard is really good, overall. In my opinion, it's one of the best in the market, and I say that because we have used other service providers.""The static scan is the feature that we use the most, as it gives us insight into our source code. We have it integrated with our continuous integration, continuous delivery system, so we can get insight quickly.""The policy reporting for ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations is pretty comprehensive, especially around PCI. If you do the static analysis, the dynamic analysis, and then a manual penetration test, it aggregates all of these results into one report. And then they create a PCI-specific report around it which helps to illustrate how the application adheres to different standards.""My experience with Veracode across the board every time, in all products, the technology, the product, the service, and the salespeople is fabulous.""The main feature that I have found valuable is the solution's ability to find issues in static analysis. Additionally, there are plenty of useful tools.""Veracode is a valuable tool in our secure SDLC process."

"It is a very stable solution.""The feature that I have found most valuable is the progressive scan. It is good. It's done in 24 hours.""It is easy to use.""I have found the detection of vulnerabilities tool thorough with good results and the graphical display output to be wonderful and full of colors. It allows many types of outputs, such as bar and chart previews.""The interface is user-friendly and easy to understand."

"The most valuable feature is the reporting, which provides a good level of detail with respect to vulnerabilities.""Tenable.io Web Application Scanning is very easy to use.""Our customers adopt this solution because of the replication testing and the vulnerability assessment it can do. It is a multi-faceted product."

Cons
"We tried to create an automatic scanning process for Veracode and integrate it into our billing process, but it was easier to adopt it to repositories based on GIT. Until now, our source control repository was Azure DevOps Server (Microsoft TFS) to managing our resources. This was not something that they supported. It took us some sessions together before we successfully implemented it.""Another problem we have is that, while it is integrated with single sign-on—we are using Okta—the user interface is not great. That's especially true for a permanent link of a report of a page. If you access it, it goes to the normal login page that has nothing that says "Log in with single sign-on," unlike other software as a service that we use. It's quite bothersome because it means that we have to go to the Okta dashboard, find the Veracode link, and log in through it. Only at that point can we go to the permanent link of the page we wanted to access.""The pricing for qualified startups such as Neo4j could be improved.""I think for us the biggest improvement would be to have an indicator when there's something wrong with a scan.""There is much to be desired of UI and user experience. The UI is very slow. With every click, it just takes a lot of time for the pages to load. We have seen this consistently since getting this solution. The UI and UX are very disjointed.""It needs better controls to include/exclude specific sections when creating a report that can be shared externally with customers and prospects.""One feature I would like would be more selectivity in email alerts. While I like getting these, I would like to be able to be more granular in which ones I receive.""Improve Mobile Application Dynamic Scanning DAST - .ipa and .apk"

More Veracode Cons →

"When comparing this solution to Veracode, Veracode has good interactive features and gives a clear understanding of what the vulnerabilities are, which error line of the vulnerability is on and what can be done. It gives interactive features, whereas this solution does not give a clear understanding of where or how to fix the problem.""The virus code updates are not frequent enough.""The scanner reports a lot of false positives, which is something that needs to be improved.""The UI is not user-friendly and you don't have a yearly reporting facility where you can slice and dice in different jobs.""The reporting contains too many false positives.""Deployment can be complicated."

More Qualys Web Application Scanning Cons →

"The reporting has a very limited customization capability.""I would like for them to add proxy filtering, where you can transfer and alter the package. It is fully automated. Other web application testers programs are actually proxy software, and the proxy software gives you the flexibility of modifying the outgoing package, which will actually help you in exploiting any vulnerability in detail.""It would be great if there were a dashboard that is more user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "For the value we get out of it, coupled with the live defect review sessions, we find it an effective value for the money. We are a larger organization."
  • "I don't really know about the pricing, but I'd say it's worth whatever Veracode is charging, because the solution is that good."
  • "Veracode's price is high. I would like them to better optimize their pricing."
  • "If I compare the pricing with other software tools, then it is quite competitive. Whatever the price is, they have always given us a good discount."
  • "Veracode is expensive. Some of its products are expensive. I don't think it's way more expensive than its competitors. The dynamic is definitely worth it, as I think it's cheaper than the competitors. The static scan is a little bit more expensive, around 20 percent more expensive. The manual pen test is more expensive, but it is an expensive service because it's a manual pen test and we also do retests. I don't think it is way more expensive than the competitors, but it's about 15 to 20 percent more expensive."
  • "We use this product per project rather than per developer... Your development model will really determine what the best fit is for you in terms of licensing, because of the project-based licensing. If you do a few projects, that's more attractive. If you have a large number of developers, that would also make the product a little more attractive."
  • "The pricing is really fair compared to a lot of other tools on the market."
  • "It is very reasonably priced compared to what we were paying our previous vendor. For the same price, we are getting much more value and reducing our AppSec costs from 40 to 50 percent."

  • "There are different options available with respect to licensing."
  • "The cost is $30,000 USD for one year to cover WAS (Web Application Security) and the VM (Virtual Machine) security in a company with 200 employees."
  • "We are on an annual license for the solution and the pricing could be more affordable."

  • "The pricing is okay."
  • "It follows the same licensing scheme as Tenable.io and Tenable. sc."

    Overview

Veracode covers all your Application Security needs in one solution through a combination of five analysis types; static analysis, dynamic analysis, software composition analysis, interactive application security testing, and penetration testing. Unlike on-premise solutions that are hard to scale and focused on finding rather than fixing, Veracode comprises a unique combination of SaaS technology and on-demand expertise that enables DevSecOps through integration with your pipeline, and empowers developers to find and fix security defects.

Qualys Web Application Scanning (WAS) is a cloud service that provides automated crawling and testing of custom web applications to identify vulnerabilities including cross-site scripting (XSS) and SQL injection. The automated service enables regular testing that produces consistent results, reduces false positives, and easily scales to secure a large number of websites. Proactively scans websites for malware infections, sending alerts to website owners to help prevent black listing and brand reputation damage.

Tenable.io Web Application Scanning safely, accurately and automatically scans your web applications, providing deep visibility into vulnerabilities and valuable context to prioritize remediation.
