Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The high performance is very valuable, as well as the enterprise reliability features.""There's lots of flexibility in how we use the resources while also maintaining a small footprint.""We have been able to consolidate storage into Pavilion. Pavilions are our only SANs because it is a bring your own disk solution. When new drives come out, we are able to take out half of the drives in the system, put in new drives, move our VMs over to the new drives, take the other drives out, and populate those with new drives. Then, we are suddenly twice as dense as we were before. NVMe flash is only going to get denser and cheaper so we can make use of that every couple of years by just throwing newer disks into it at a fraction of the cost of a new SAN."

"The availability and ease of use are the big features.""One of the features that my customers are really interested in is immutable snapshots. There are immutable snapshots to which your applications can be reverted back if you are hit by some kind of ransomware threat or malicious attack. That's kind of a key deal, and it is one of the selling points I use to point out to my customers the value and the features that Pure Storage brings to the table.""Technical support has been amazing.""Technical support is good.""The speed of the Pure FlashArray is very, very fast and nothing in the market can compare to it.""We're getting good performance, and the compression ratio is also very good in Pure Storage FlashArray.""FlashArray has many valuable features. It's very user-friendly and it has high availability, so there is comparatively less downtime. During maintenance, there is no shutdown procedure, so you can directly power off the Array and manage the shutdown process without any data loss, which is a unique feature. Managing replication and data migration is also very easy.""The most valuable features in Pure Storage FlashArray are deduplication and active cluster."

"The most valuable feature is the performance, as well as how you manage performance on the system.""SolidFire provides seamless performance across your storage system when you need to scale up. Other storage systems do not do that.""I would say in terms of architecture and in terms of functionality, the product is quite good.""It's got full API functionality and the performance is pretty steady.""The system efficiency is excellent overall.""The dashboard is such that you don't need to be a storage expert to administer it."

Cons
"The rail system that Pavilion uses to mount up into a standard Dell or APC cabinet extends further back than normal rails, and they cover up the zero PDU slot. So, I don't like the rail system that comes with the device. That is my biggest complaint.""In our current configuration, we can only run the line controllers in high availability, active-standby mode, whereas we would like to see active-active implemented.""I would like to see the management layer improved."

"There are many features which need to be added, particularly on the replication side.""CIFS and SMB Shares cannot be mounted directly.""The file functionality could be better.""On a couple of occasions, the waiting time for an upgrade has been pretty substantial.""Its price needs improvement. Its price is almost double than any other flash storage solution.""The system has dual controllers but does not have a high level of resiliency built-in.""A minor issue that comes to mind is that, every once in a while, a hard drive will go bad.""The price could be better."

More Pure Storage FlashArray Cons →

"You don't have business continuity with SolidFire. I think it could be a nice feature to have in the future.""The user interface needs to be improved. Much of the client feedback involves comments such as "Oh, it's hard to navigate through."""The upgrade process could be better.""SolidFire should start from two nodes instead of the four nodes. That's the only thing. In a lot of solutions, we have to use four nodes, that's the better thing. But as a starting point, two is better. That's why their starting point is expensive.""The inclusion of more protocols and interfaces would make it easier to integrate with other products.""The technical support is really bad and has to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This is hardware. They have a singular array that you can populate with your own disk, or you can buy the disks through them. For controllers, you pay for the components inside of the SAN, but there is only one chassis that they work with."
  • "The licensing fees are very reasonable."
  • More Pavilion HyperParallel Flash Array Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Its price is almost double than any other flash storage solution."
  • "The price, in general, is around $100,000, however, I know it costs more."
  • "They have a standardized fee; it's been the same price for 10 years straight. I am happy with the price — I think it's good."
  • "We do not incur additional costs beyond the licensing fee."
  • "My organization has a yearly license, but I believe that Pure Storage FlashArray has capacity-based licenses as well. I'm definitely happy with the pricing."
  • "There is an annual or perpetual license required for this solution."
  • "Pure is typically more expensive than everyone else. You get what you pay for, but I have lost deals to similar solutions because of pricing. They include everything, and that's another positive about Pure Storage. They aren't trying to nickel and dime their customers for different features. It is all included in one price. The license is by capacity, and the price depends on the capacity and the discount we're getting from the vendor. You get the SKU of the physical appliance, support, and maintenance, and that's it. You're licensed for whatever feature they offer. It is all rolled up into the price of the appliance."
  • "The pricing is reasonable."
