Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Oracle Database is very flexible.""Technical support is great.""When we are not able to solve a problem we immediately contacted Oracle support team to help us solve it.""The reliability is the solution's most valuable feature. We've had great success with the solution.""The solution can scale well.""I like that it's stable. What's good is that Oracle manages the infrastructure. We have got better because they update the server by default or whenever it's needed. They try to fix it server by server because of their own support plans.""I like the design of the database because it works well. I also like the stability of the solution.""As a database, the solution has been number one from the beginning."

"It is a pretty good solution. The on-premise version 2019 has many features, and they had introduced a really good and stable environment in version 2019. It has very good integration with big data clusters and other things. It covers pretty much everything that you can do with a SQL server. You can use any language to connect to it, which is not there in other solutions. They have also introduced Python, and it also has ArcScale. PaaS is a modern, scalable database. You can use Power Automate and a lot of features in this. It is very easy, and you don't have to worry about versions and upgrades. Microsoft keeps on adding new features to this solution. Microsoft is improving its connectivity on an ongoing basis. It connects well with Office 365. If you see something not working, in a couple of weeks, it is going to work because there is a team working on it. You can vote for the things that are missing, and Microsoft can work on them depending on the product that they're launching.""It's easy to use and fairly intuitive. I do development and data analysis, so we do a lot of work with SSIS and SQL Job Scheduler. Deploying new databases is very simple with things like BACPAC.""It's more user-friendly than most databases.""The performance is reliable.""We have found the feature that allows us to publish web applications to be valuable.""I like that it's very easy to use, and Veeam is excellent. There are tons of experts and writers in the area now, and we don't find the same for other databases.""As a data warehouse and storage solution, it's quite good.""The initial setup is easy, flawless."

Cons
"The initial setup should be improved.""CRM could be improved.""The database environment needs to be cheaper. By making it less expensive, Oracle would be more competitive with other database vendors.""There are a lot of additional costs. That is the reason we are only leveraging for transactional related purposes, so that we do not spend so much on doing the same thing on Oracle. That is the reason we are looking for open source databases now.""The initial setup can be simplified.""Probably about 80% of their online documentation is useless. When you go to the Oracle documentation, you have to plow through page after page of stuff to get to anything that looks anything like an example of what it is that you might actually do. There are lots of other people who have filled that gap, and there are also websites where you can easily find the answers to most of your questions.""The primary concern is that Oracle is highly restricted in terms of the approved technologies where we can freely deploy Oracle Database or any other Oracle product.""I have contacted the support from Oracle and they are sometimes slow."

More Oracle Database Cons →

"It could be more stable.""The solution could offer more integration with other platforms.""Price could be cheaper, and access to reporting tools should be better.""Occasionally the performance, as good as it is, is a bit off. We sometimes experience memory spiking. If they could maybe fix that aspect of the solution, that would be quite helpful for our organization.""Its security can be improved. When you look at the Windows environment, it isn't the most secure environment. It is exposed to so many attacks. They continuously need to improve the security of the platform on which it sits.""It would be better if it had more integration with other systems.""SQL Server could improve by providing something similar to an interface or dashboard where a developer can do debugging, this would make a developer's work easier. Additionally, the optimization could be better. If there was an interface showing information needed for the optimization it would help because there can be some data loss making it difficult to optimize the SQL Server.""Scalability of the database could be improved if it could handle increased volumes of data."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Our licensing costs are between $40,000 and $50,000 per year. Those are the costs that cover maintenance and licensing."
  • "The pricing is something that Oracle should work on to make the product more affordable, especially to businesses in third-world countries."
  • "It is very expensive. We pay in dollars, so the inflation and conversion cost is also there for us. They charge on a yearly basis for the license."
  • "Its price is already low. Oracle has a competitive and cheaper price as compared to others. Oracle Cloud is cheaper than other clouds. The pricing is very competitive for Oracle Cloud to be in the market. Their pricing makes customers interested in using this product even though Oracle doesn't have a local data center at this moment."
  • "They are pricing themselves out of the market."
  • "It is expensive."
  • "It's expensive. I would say that it is more expensive than other competing products."
  • "It's not cheap, but sometimes, you get what you pay for."

  • "SQL Server is a cost-effective solution for a small database."
  • "Pricing is reasonable for small organizations, but the scaling increases the price."
  • "We didn't have any licensing costs for SQL Server."
  • "We pay approximately $12,000 USD per month for both the server and the license."
  • "The price could be cheaper."
  • "Cost is a major derivative for any organization. It has a reasonable cost value, and its cloud support is also better than others. Comparatively, Oracle can do the same things or is even better in certain areas, but it is expensive. The cost along with the support are the plus factors for SQL Server."
  • "We have had to purchase the Enterprise version to the tune of a few hundred thousand dollars, which is just ridiculous."
  • "With recent releases, the Standard Edition (cheaper) SKU has some of the earlier version Enterprise features. SQL Express has some limitations."

SQL Server is the Microsoft-driven relational database management system. This system is used to store data as well as retrieve it when necessary; these functions can be supported by individual users or by multiple users within a larger network. The Microsoft SQL Server has warehousing options, quality and integration services, management tools that are simple to implement, as well as robust tools for development.

Looking at the more technical end of things, Microsoft SQL Server uses query languages such as T-SQL and ANSI SQL. Disaster recovery is one of the product's most prominent features, in addition to in-memory performance, scalability, and corporate business intelligence capabilities.
