We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Oracle Database is easy to use.""Oracle Database has high-level features that are very good.""The solution has an endless capacity.""Oracle Database is easy to use.""A really large and very useful language to process data.""I have been satisfied with the technical support from Oracle.""I like the backend robustness of the database, and the security capabilities inherently that are in the product itself.""Oracle Database is very stable. In terms of stability and performance, Oracle is super. On the database side, Oracle is number one in our tests."

Cons
"The main thing we find could use improvement is the licensing costs. It is quite expensive relative to other database vendors. Cost always comes up as an issue for us as we consider upgrade paths. It's not as easy as we would like it to be.""The quality of technical support could be better. They could respond faster.""Probably about 80% of their online documentation is useless. When you go to the Oracle documentation, you have to plow through page after page of stuff to get to anything that looks anything like an example of what it is that you might actually do. There are lots of other people who have filled that gap, and there are also websites where you can easily find the answers to most of your questions.""It should have more monitoring features. There should be features to be able to analyze the performance with a query. In Microsoft SQL Server, when you are running any stored procedure, if you want to analyze the performance, you just run the query analyzer. You can easily find out that something is missing in a joint condition, or clustering needs to be added because of a delay. I can't find such features in Oracle Database. They should be added.""The pricing is the one sticking point for the solution because it is very expensive.""We faced some difficulties in the network configuration area. All these things can be fixed with the support of Oracle's networking team. We didn't face any other major problems. Its deployment can be easier. It should be easier to configure for a developer. If a developer is planning a database and trying to configure it, it should be easy for him because many times, we cannot directly get help from DBAs.""An area for improvement would be query performance - in some cases, it's really, really hard to make it run faster.""The pricing of the product could be better. It's too expensive right now. They need to bring down the cost."

"User interface could be more user friendly.""Because the solution is customized. we do occasionally face unique bugs. There are always some changes that need to be made here and there."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Our licensing costs are between $40,000 and $50,000 per year. Those are the costs that cover maintenance and licensing."
  • "The pricing is something that Oracle should work on to make the product more affordable, especially to businesses in third-world countries."
  • "It is very expensive. We pay in dollars, so the inflation and conversion cost is also there for us. They charge on a yearly basis for the license."
  • "Its price is already low. Oracle has a competitive and cheaper price as compared to others. Oracle Cloud is cheaper than other clouds. The pricing is very competitive for Oracle Cloud to be in the market. Their pricing makes customers interested in using this product even though Oracle doesn't have a local data center at this moment."
  • "They are pricing themselves out of the market."
  • "It is expensive."
  • "It's expensive. I would say that it is more expensive than other competing products."
  • "It's not cheap, but sometimes, you get what you pay for."
