Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The customizable reports and dashboards are really flexible. We started this partnership with Centreon, when we were looking for a solution, because of the flexibility of the reporting. That's what we found to be most attractive in the solution. You can display the data as you want.""We have the business activity monitoring, the map, and the MBI modules and they are all very good.""The dashboards are valuable because they ease troubleshooting and viewing. It becomes easier to locate the source of a problem... The dashboards make it easier to communicate with our clients. They don't want to see the alert console, they want to see a beautiful dashboard representing their network and their business and to watch it in case something is wrong in their environment.""You can concentrate and orchestrate several other solutions from other vendors. You can consolidate those solutions all in one place, then maintain and monitor from that single point. This creates ease of use. It is a very powerful solution from this point of view.""Centreon helps me detect where the problem is quickly. When we resolve a problem quickly, this lowers our overall costs.""The single-pane view provides us a view of all of our network infrastructure, and it is one of the most important tools that we use to see the status of our customers' networks."

"Nagios is a custom API manager, and we can expose custom APIs for our integration. This is a great feature.""Nagios XI helps us monitor the bandwidth of the internet connection, HTTP, DNS, active directory services, and exchange data availability. We have multiple servers to monitor databases, availability of servers, and ping.""The solution is pretty stable.""Nagios is stable and it's easy to use the monitoring software, which is why we chose this product."

More Nagios XI Pros »

"I would boldly say that this is the most scalable network monitoring tool that I know of""Ability to create a dashboard inside software monitoring.""Technical support has been very helpful so far.""The initial setup was easy. We didn't have any issues with the process and everything rolled out smoothly.""It is user-friendly. It is easy to set up health checks within PRTG and use scans. It is like a self-service tool, and anyone can configure their own settings within PRTG.""It is easy when it comes to dependencies of devices, so if your router goes down, the three or four switches behind it will automatically be paused so that you don't get multiple alerts.""Good compilation of the system's information.""The initial setup is pretty easy."

Cons
"Currently, we have to go through all of the different templates and take a look at how the template is configured, and how specific parameters may change across different templates with different precedents, megatons, etc. It's a lot of work and involves trial and error. I wish they could simplify the process.""During the initial setup we faced some issues. Part of it was because we had to become more knowledgeable in the solution. There are some gray areas and if you don't know the product well you may have issues. Another part of it was some bugs that we came across, although that's part of every software solution in IT nowadays. But the initial setup could be easier.""Centreon is actually missing an easy way to create a trendline for the metrics. Actually it is possible to create it, but you need a good knowledge of math, Centreon, and RRD.""I would like to see more plugins. That is something it needs. There is also room for improvement through dynamic thresholds, or self-discover thresholds. I would also like to see a discovery feature that could map the whole network environment and automatically suggest things.""Opening a ticket on the website of Centreon can be difficult for my colleague, but not for me because my English is good. However, my colleague doesn't speak English well, as our company is in Quebec and our first language is French.""Improvements are needed in the area of cloud monitoring, as that's a newer feature."

More Centreon Cons »

"The pricing has recently risen. I know they've changed what is covered under the license, however, it doesn't change the way we use it and adds nothing to our experience, and yet we now have to pay more.""The installation and monitoring need improvement.""It is really difficult to integrate Nagios XI with another system to generate logs and alert our management of failures in security infrastructure.""We often need to develop custom plugins to get Nagios to work the way we want it to work because the features we need are not always available in Nagios."

More Nagios XI Cons »

"The inventory of the device should be improved.""Its price can be better. Its price is a problem for us because it is in dollars, and there is a high conversion rate. In terms of new features, it can have BGP monitoring. It should also have a dashboard and maps editor.""PRTG's documentation could be improved.""The technical support could respond a little bit quicker.""I know we're going to move to Docker applications and I understand that PRTG does some monitoring regarding this. I do not know if it is complete. If it's not yet complete, it's something they should consider improving.""The solution could be better and faster when it comes to performance.""Their penetration within the market could be much better. If their pricing was lower, even though it's reasonable now, it might help them achieve this.""Can be slow in the way it polls the different engines."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"If you need basic monitoring without dashboards, just monitoring, the plugins are very useful and really cheap. If you want a more complete solution with dashboards and reporting, the EMS solution is great and it is not that much more expensive. It's a good value. Really good.""Their licensing model is really easy. You have one license and you have access to all the features, compared to other tools where you have to purchase add-ons.""Centreon is better than Nagios XI in regards to cost and support response times, when you have a problem. If you have a problem, it costs money to contact the Nagios XI support.""Centreon is always available to develop new plugins when needed. The most important thing is that their maintenance account yearly subscription fee includes the fact that they will maintain the new plugins that you requested them to deliver.""The pricing works out well for us, given our environment and where we are."

"Nagios Core does not have any payment, but Nagios XI requires payment for the license.""For our country in North Africa, it's expensive and we could purchase another solution for that price. But it's a reasonable price if we're speaking in international terms."

"We have an unlimited license for this solution.""All monitoring system is close to the same pricing scheme.""Cost was a factor when selecting this solution, but it just did everything we wanted it to do.""I'm paying something like €1000 per year for the maintenance. I've got unlimited sensors.""We used a product called SolarWinds in the past, and its cost was high. Whereas, PRTG came in at a third of SolarWind's cost.""Our licensing costs are 10,000 euros over three years.""PRTG is now available as PRTG Enterprise Monitor, and the price varies depending on the total number of sensors the customer buys""It is expensive."
