Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We have been able to consolidate storage into Pavilion. Pavilions are our only SANs because it is a bring your own disk solution. When new drives come out, we are able to take out half of the drives in the system, put in new drives, move our VMs over to the new drives, take the other drives out, and populate those with new drives. Then, we are suddenly twice as dense as we were before. NVMe flash is only going to get denser and cheaper so we can make use of that every couple of years by just throwing newer disks into it at a fraction of the cost of a new SAN.""There's lots of flexibility in how we use the resources while also maintaining a small footprint.""The high performance is very valuable, as well as the enterprise reliability features."

"The solution is easy to scale as needed.""Excellent and efficient support, and the product is a good price.""Great value for money.""The setup and the price are the most valuable and not the features related.""OceanStor is cheaper than Dell EMC, and its management interface is quite simple.""Generally stable with good technical support.""Huawei OceanStor is stable.""The most valuable feature is the flexibility in the rail, as it is hybrid storage."

More Huawei OceanStor Pros →

"The most valuable features are the five chips architecture and the purpose-built NVMe hard disk drive. Additionally, the IOPS feature is good.""There are plenty of features available in this solution.""This is a stable product that we can use for DR in production.""The initial setup is very straightforward.""I've been satisfied with the level of attention I'm given when I reach out to technical support.""Most of the features which all enterprises storages solutions have are available in Huawei OceanStor Dorado.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the overall simplicity.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the price to performance ratio."

Cons
"I would like to see the management layer improved.""In our current configuration, we can only run the line controllers in high availability, active-standby mode, whereas we would like to see active-active implemented.""The rail system that Pavilion uses to mount up into a standard Dell or APC cabinet extends further back than normal rails, and they cover up the zero PDU slot. So, I don't like the rail system that comes with the device. That is my biggest complaint."

"The technical support has been a let down for us. It's something the company has to work on. We haven't been satisfied with their level of service.""I would like to see the next generation all-flash, which could be combined.""Integration with mainstream solution technologies could be better.""Technical support could be more helpful.""Could have a more stable, lighter Metro and better logging system.""The solution could improve by having better integration.""The administration should be simplified because there are a large number of options that make it too complicated, and the customers can get confused.""CFS integration is one area where OceanStor has some room for improvement. The CFS on OceanStor is dedicated, so it's not integrated with the existing active directory domain."

More Huawei OceanStor Cons →

"It should have easy connectivity with the AIX, however, I've found that with AIX, it has some issues and due to this, we need to remove the exact fiber card sometimes and then plug it in again so that it can connect with the AIX systems.""There are some limitations to this product because they do not have unified storage.""This solution can improve by providing easier migrations and better Metro features.""Huawei OceanStor Dorado could improve the integration, there have been some compatibility issues with some operating system functions.""The user interface of Huawei OceanStor Dorado could be more user-friendly. Other solutions, such as EMC, have a better user interface.""If they implement a backup solution directly into the OceanStor then it will be a valuable feature.""The product could always be faster.""This solution does not support VMware VVols 2.0."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This is hardware. They have a singular array that you can populate with your own disk, or you can buy the disks through them. For controllers, you pay for the components inside of the SAN, but there is only one chassis that they work with."
  • "The licensing fees are very reasonable."

  • "Huawei OceanStor is priced very well but is a bit complicated."
  • "The price of the solution could be less expensive. However, there are not any licensing costs."
  • More Huawei OceanStor Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "There are lots of features included with this solution and some of them require additional licensing, such as creating high availability storage using a cluster."
  • "There are some costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, depending on the requirements."
  • "This product is not too expensive, and the price is competitive on the market."
  • "We usually recommend our customers choose advanced licensing and enterprise companies are more inclined to choose this solution because it is more cost-effective than competitors."
  • "The price of the solution is competitive compared to others, such as Dell EMC and Hitachi. I believe the reason they are providing a discount is they want to increase their penetration into the market."
  • "Huawei has very good pricing. They have some promotions that can be taken advantage of at certain times of the year, such as the end of December. They are providing aggressive pricing. In the Pakistan market, they are ready to beat any vendor in Pakistan because they want to grab the market."
  • "The price of Huawei OceanStor Dorado is very inexpensive, it cost approximately $5 per gigabyte."
  • "The price of the solution is reasonable. There is not a vendor that offers an All-Flash Storage Array at the price of Huawei OceanStor Dorado. The other solutions are approximately 50% higher."
