We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The high performance is very valuable, as well as the enterprise reliability features.""There's lots of flexibility in how we use the resources while also maintaining a small footprint.""We have been able to consolidate storage into Pavilion. Pavilions are our only SANs because it is a bring your own disk solution. When new drives come out, we are able to take out half of the drives in the system, put in new drives, move our VMs over to the new drives, take the other drives out, and populate those with new drives. Then, we are suddenly twice as dense as we were before. NVMe flash is only going to get denser and cheaper so we can make use of that every couple of years by just throwing newer disks into it at a fraction of the cost of a new SAN."

"HPE 3PAR StoreServ is easy to use and has good performance.""If there is a problem then the HPE facility will detect it and immediately contact me.""This is a stable solution.""Their support is the most valuable. The support that we are getting from HP Turkey is very good. This product is better than some of the other products in terms of reliability. It is very reliable.""HPE 3PAR StoreServ has been stable.""The product lasts a very long time without having to be replaced. It's had a very long life.""This is a very robust product and it offers everything that we are looking for.""We never had a blackout and we have never been offline."

"The management features are well organized and they have a very good dashboard.""The all-flash disc is the most valuable feature of this solution.""Processes that used to take 40 minutes to two hours can be completed in five minutes.""The availability and ease of use are the big features.""The most valuable feature is replication.""I like the speed, and I like the API and how programmable it is.""The solution offers amazing performance.""This is the best all-flash storage array on the market."

Cons
"The rail system that Pavilion uses to mount up into a standard Dell or APC cabinet extends further back than normal rails, and they cover up the zero PDU slot. So, I don't like the rail system that comes with the device. That is my biggest complaint.""I would like to see the management layer improved.""In our current configuration, we can only run the line controllers in high availability, active-standby mode, whereas we would like to see active-active implemented."

"The product is quite expensive.""An area of improvement for this solution is an increase in the bandwidth as well as an upgrade of the storage functionality and capabilities. The storage needs to be expandable for future-proofing.""Cloud integration could be better. They can also add an NVMe to port to that. I would like to see NVMe in the next release. That's the future or the near future for storage. That will give us a real high throughput and some performance.""HPE could improve by making an old flash system in order to compete with the current market. For the solution to be more competitive in the mid-range market they could increase the performance.""HP has several integration elements that work with other vendor storage products. I'd like to see a greater expansion on that so that a customer can do a more seamless migration from other vendor products.""Its price is a bit high for adding another tree.""The solution could be improved in regard to space reclamation by adding automation.""HPE 3PAR StoreServ has limited flexibility in building replication solutions. There are limitations to the number of IOPS the system can do. It's not bad as it is doing its job. However, for the application, if you need a toolbox, you can build everything concerning periodic replication modes of synchronous or asynchronous three-site, four-site, with supported cascading which requires you to buy an IBM product. It also takes a few hours to one day to upgrade the system and sometimes; it takes more time because, in some HPE 3PAR StoreServ 20000 Storage, you have an eight-node system. If you do an upgrade, you do it node by node and every node might take more than an hour."

More HPE 3PAR StoreServ Cons →

"CIFS and SMB Shares cannot be mounted directly.""Pure Storage support could be a little better.""The problem is that we can only make a few groups, around five or six groups. I like groups and we need a lot of them. We had to put all the information in only a few groups and cannot make a more detailed separation of them.""I feel like there is too much automation; the user doesn't have any manual input.""The solution could improve by having a multi-tenant feature.""It is not possible to create a cluster on top of multiple arrays.""Its price needs improvement. Its price is almost double than any other flash storage solution.""We would like to be able to connect to data tape for backup, specifically to the LTO backups."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This is hardware. They have a singular array that you can populate with your own disk, or you can buy the disks through them. For controllers, you pay for the components inside of the SAN, but there is only one chassis that they work with."
  • "The licensing fees are very reasonable."

  • "We paid for five years of support when we purchased the product."
  • "The SSD is a little bit expensive."
  • "This is not an expensive product but every time you add capacity to it, you need to pay for re-balancing."
  • "Its price is a bit high for adding another tree, but when we purchased it, it was okay with us. We had compared it with EMC and other solutions, and it was okay at that point in time. Our storage has a lifespan of seven to eight years. When you purchase it, you need to keep a headroom of around 40% to 50%. After three to four years, you generally plan for an upgrade. The price is not so bad today for two years or so, and within a year, I might find that I have to upgrade or increase the storage. This usually happens when there is a radical change or a new application has come that is consuming a lot of data, but generally, there is a plan for the amount of data that we generate and the storage upgrade."
  • "It is lower in price as compared to other vendors, such as Dell. As compared to Huawei, all storage solutions are expensive, including this one."
  • "It is a bit more expensive. IBM is cheaper than HPE in Turkey."
  • "This solution is expensive. We pay every year for support. It's a lump sum because we pay for data center support services, and everything is included in one."
  • "The cost is reasonable given that the licensing is all included once you purchase it."
  • More HPE 3PAR StoreServ Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Its price is almost double than any other flash storage solution."
  • "The price, in general, is around $100,000, however, I know it costs more."
  • "They have a standardized fee; it's been the same price for 10 years straight. I am happy with the price — I think it's good."
  • "We do not incur additional costs beyond the licensing fee."
  • "My organization has a yearly license, but I believe that Pure Storage FlashArray has capacity-based licenses as well. I'm definitely happy with the pricing."
  • "There is an annual or perpetual license required for this solution."
  • "Pure is typically more expensive than everyone else. You get what you pay for, but I have lost deals to similar solutions because of pricing. They include everything, and that's another positive about Pure Storage. They aren't trying to nickel and dime their customers for different features. It is all included in one price. The license is by capacity, and the price depends on the capacity and the discount we're getting from the vendor. You get the SKU of the physical appliance, support, and maintenance, and that's it. You're licensed for whatever feature they offer. It is all rolled up into the price of the appliance."
  • "The pricing is reasonable."
