Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Veracode's cloud-based approach, coupled with the appliance that lets us use Veracode to scan internal-only web applications, has provided a seamless, always-up-to-date application security scanning solution.""It is easy to use for us developers. It supports so many languages: C#, .NET Core, .NET Framework, and it even scans some of our JavaScript. You just need the extension to upload the files and the reports are generated with so much detail.""In terms of secure development, the SAST scan is very useful because we are able to identify security flaws in the code base itself, for the application.""The static scan is the feature that we use the most, as it gives us insight into our source code. We have it integrated with our continuous integration, continuous delivery system, so we can get insight quickly.""Another feature of Veracode is that they provide e-learning, but the e-learning is not basic, rather it is quite advanced... in the e-learning you can check into best practices for developing code and how to prevent improper management of some component of the code that could lead to a vulnerability. The e-learning that Veracode provides is an extremely good tool.""There are quite a few features that are very reliable, like the newly launched Veracode Pipelines Scan, which is pretty awesome. It supports the synchronous pipeline pretty well. We been using it out of the Jira plugin, and that is fantastic.""Good static analysis and dynamic analysis.""Integrations into our developer's IDE (Greenlight) and the DevOps Pipeline SAST / SourceClear Integrations has particularly increased our time to market and confidence."

"There's extensive functionality with custom rules and a custom knowledge base.""It identifies all the URLs and domains on its own and then performs tests and provides the results.""The solution offers services in a few specific development languages."

More HCL AppScan Pros →

"Our customers adopt this solution because of the replication testing and the vulnerability assessment it can do. It is a multi-faceted product.""The most valuable feature is the reporting, which provides a good level of detail with respect to vulnerabilities.""Tenable.io Web Application Scanning is very easy to use."

Cons
"The pricing for qualified startups such as Neo4j could be improved.""I would like to see them provide more content in the developer training section. This field is really changing each day and there are flaws that are detected each day. Some sort of regular updates to the learning would help.""It needs better controls to include/exclude specific sections when creating a report that can be shared externally with customers and prospects.""If the dynamic scan is improved, then the speed might go up. That is somehow not happening. We have raised this concern. It might also help if they could time limit scans to 24 hours instead of letting them go for three days. Then, whatever results could be shared, even if the scan is not complete, that would definitely help us.""I would ask Veracode to be a lot more engaged with the customer and set up live sessions where they force the customer to engage with Veracode's technical team. Veracode could show them a repo, how they should do things, this is what these results mean, here is a dashboard, here's the interpretation, here's where you find the results.""The static analysis is prone to a lot of false positives. But that's how it is with most static analysis tools... Also, the static analysis can sometimes take a little while. The time that it takes to do a scan should be improved.""Improve Mobile Application Dynamic Scanning DAST - .ipa and .apk""When it comes to the speed of the pipeline scan, one of the things we have found with Veracode is that it's very fast with Java-based applications but a bit slow with C/C++ based applications. So we have implemented the pipeline scan only for Java-based applications not for the C/C++ applications."

More Veracode Cons →

"They have to improve support.""The solution often has a high number of false positives. It's an aspect they really need to improve upon.""One thing which I think can be improved is the CI/CD Integration"

More HCL AppScan Cons →

"The reporting has a very limited customization capability.""I would like for them to add proxy filtering, where you can transfer and alter the package. It is fully automated. Other web application testers programs are actually proxy software, and the proxy software gives you the flexibility of modifying the outgoing package, which will actually help you in exploiting any vulnerability in detail.""It would be great if there were a dashboard that is more user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "For the value we get out of it, coupled with the live defect review sessions, we find it an effective value for the money. We are a larger organization."
  • "I don't really know about the pricing, but I'd say it's worth whatever Veracode is charging, because the solution is that good."
  • "Veracode's price is high. I would like them to better optimize their pricing."
  • "If I compare the pricing with other software tools, then it is quite competitive. Whatever the price is, they have always given us a good discount."
  • "Veracode is expensive. Some of its products are expensive. I don't think it's way more expensive than its competitors. The dynamic is definitely worth it, as I think it's cheaper than the competitors. The static scan is a little bit more expensive, around 20 percent more expensive. The manual pen test is more expensive, but it is an expensive service because it's a manual pen test and we also do retests. I don't think it is way more expensive than the competitors, but it's about 15 to 20 percent more expensive."
  • "We use this product per project rather than per developer... Your development model will really determine what the best fit is for you in terms of licensing, because of the project-based licensing. If you do a few projects, that's more attractive. If you have a large number of developers, that would also make the product a little more attractive."
  • "The pricing is really fair compared to a lot of other tools on the market."
  • "It is very reasonably priced compared to what we were paying our previous vendor. For the same price, we are getting much more value and reducing our AppSec costs from 40 to 50 percent."
