Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The most valuable feature is definitely the ability that Devo has to ingest data. From the previous SIEM that I came from and helped my company administer, it really was the type of system where data was parsed on ingest. This meant that if you didn't build the parser efficiently or correctly, sometimes that would bring the system to its knees. You'd have a backlog of processing the logs as it was ingesting them.""It's very, very versatile.""The thing that Devo does better than other solutions is to give me the ability to write queries that look at multiple data sources and run fast. Most SIEMs don't do that. And I can do that by creating entity-based queries. Let's say I have a table which has Okta, a table which has G Suite, a table which has endpoint telemetry, and I have a table which has DNS telemetry. I can write a query that says, 'Join all these things together on IP, and where the IP matches in all these tables, return to me that subset of data, within these time windows.' I can break it down that way.""Those 400 days of hot data mean that people can look for trends and at what happened in the past. And they can not only do so from a security point of view, but even for operational use cases. In the past, our operational norm was to keep live data for only 30 days. Our users were constantly asking us for at least 90 days, and we really couldn't even do that. That's one reason that having 400 days of live data is pretty huge. As our users start to use it and adopt this system, we expect people to be able to do those long-term analytics.""The user interface is really modern. As an end-user, there are a lot of possibilities to tailor the platform to your needs, and that can be done without needing much support from Devo. It's really flexible and modular. The UI is very clean.""Even if it's a relatively technical tool or platform, it's very intuitive and graphical. It's very appealing in terms of the user interface. The UI has a graphically interface with the raw data in a table. The table can be as big as you want it, depending on your use case. You can easily get a report combining your data, along with calculations and graphical dashboards. You don't need a lot of training, because the UI is relatively very intuitive.""The real-time analytics of security-related data are super. There are a lot of data feeds going into it and it's very quick at pulling up and correlating the data and showing you what's going on in your infrastructure. It's fast. The way that their architecture and technology works, they've really focused on the speed of query results and making sure that we can do what we need to do quickly. Devo is pulling back information in a fast fashion, based on real-time events.""The user experience [is] well thought out and the workflows are logical. The dashboards are intuitive and highly customizable."

"The features that our customers have found most valuable are their different type of reports including the drill down report, as well as the flexibility to connect to any number of appliances which can be connected to it centrally.""The initial setup is straightforward.""The solution is very easy to deploy.""The scalability is good. It is also good in the cluster nodes. You can make multiple FortiAnalyzer clusters groups, and you can distribute the logs between these FortiAnalyzer nodes. In other words, you can expand the scale.""FortiAnalyzer has a robust ability to find a compromised host on your network, and when you identify a compromised host, you can address it.""The solution allows for a lot of customization.""There are customizable workflows that you can work with. You can automate certain tasks in FortiAnaylzer in the incidents and events sections.""The most important feature is to be able to get reports or information about the state of all firewalls."

"It is nice to be able to monitor and to have notifications.""The reporting is great. Everything you need is in the report for you already.""You can have all of the logs from servers to network and it gets sent out to the correct owners. This is very helpful.""The most valuable feature is that this solution is more secure than others, and there are more applications and features as well.""The reports that you can run are really nice.""The deployment is quite simple and pretty straightforward.""It basically helps us. We have to stay in compliance with certain issues with some of our customers. We have to have these types of tools in place for protecting our network and our data. We're in the aerospace industry, so we have a lot of defense contracts. So, all those guys will make sure that we're protecting their information, and it does a good job in that aspect."

Cons
"One major area for improvement for Devo... is to provide more capabilities around pre-built monitoring. They're working on integrations with different types of systems, but that integration needs to go beyond just onboarding to the platform. It needs to include applications, out-of-the-box, that immediately help people to start monitoring their systems. Such applications would include dashboards and alerts, and then people could customize them for their own needs so that they aren't starting from a blank slate.""There is room for improvement in the ability to parse different log types. I would go as far as to say the product is deficient in its ability to parse multiple, different log types, including logs from major vendors that are supported by competitors. Additionally, the time that it takes to turn around a supported parser for customers and common log source types, which are generally accepted standards in the industry, is not acceptable. This has impacted customer onboarding and customer relationships for us on multiple fronts.""Technical support could be better.""Devo has a lot of cloud connectors, but they need to do a little bit of work there. They've got good integrations with the public cloud, but there are a lot of cloud SaaS systems that they still need to work with on integrations, such as Salesforce and other SaaS providers where we need to get access logs.""The Activeboards feature is not as mature regarding the look and feel. Its functionality is mature, but the look and feel is not there. For example, if you have some data sets and are trying to get some graphics, you cannot change anything. There's just one format for the graphics. You cannot change the size of the font, the font itself, etc.""There's always room to reduce the learning curve over how to deal with events and machine data. They could make the machine data simpler.""Some third-parties don't have specific API connectors built, so we had to work with Devo to get the logs and parse the data using custom parsers, rather than an out-of-the-box solution.""I would like to have the ability to create more complex dashboards."

"In terms of what could be improved, sometimes it's lagging and it also has some graphical issues with the GUI.""There are a lot of solutions on the market and Fortinet FortiAnalyzer is limited. It cannot be used across multiple vendors. They can improve by advancing their technology.""From my point of view, at this time, the solution isn't lacking any features or functionalities.""Pricing-wise, it not affordable for the normal customer. Most of the people want to see different types of reporting, but FortiAnalyzer's fee is a little bit difficult.""We should be able to do the patch upgrades in a centralized manner. This functionality is currently not there. It would be good to be able to do the firmware updates from one place and at the same time. Currently, if we want to update all appliances, we require FortiManager, which is another solution from Fortinet. Its documentation can be improved. It will be helpful for implementing the product and gaining knowledge for management purposes.""Though FortiAnalyzer has improved over the last few versions, the user interface still has room for improvement. It's a bit dated-looking.""One of the main disadvantages is not having a direct link to the security policy when you see something in the log.""The support could be better for Fortinet FortiAnalyzer here in Mexico."

More Fortinet FortiAnalyzer Cons »

"The matter of the data retention needs to be addressed.""Their technical support should be improved.""It takes a little bit of time for Log360 to actually learn your environment.""The support needs improvement.""We can log in as a local user, and it's fine, but when we login with an Active Directory user, we cannot.""The graphical interface could be made easier to use when you are connecting to different network equipment.""Most times log sheets are not assigned well."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"We have an OEM agreement with Devo. It is very similar to the standard licensing agreement because we are charged in the same way as any other customer, e.g., we use the backroom.""Be cautious of metadata inclusion for log types in pricing, as there are some "gotchas" with that.""It's a per gigabyte cost for ingestion of data. For every gigabyte that you ingest, it's whatever you negotiated your price for. Compared to other contracts that we've had for cloud providers, it's significantly less.""[Devo was] in the ballpark with at least a couple of the other front-runners that we were looking at. Devo is a good value and, given the quality of the product, I would expect to pay more.""Our licensing fees are billed annually and per terabyte.""Devo was very cost-competitive... Devo did come with that 400 days of hot data, and that was not the case with other products.""I'm not involved in the financial aspect, but I think the licensing costs are similar to other solutions. If all the solutions have a similar cost, Devo provides more for the money.""Devo is definitely cheaper than Splunk. There's no doubt about that. The value from Devo is good. It's definitely more valuable to me than QRadar or LogRhythm or any of the old, traditional SIEMs."

More Devo Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Its price is okay for us. Fortinet products are cheaper than other solutions.""I believe that these devices were procured with a five-year maintenance and support license up front. I work at a university, so the vendor provides a considerable higher ed discount.""In the local market sometimes people are being charged more than other solutions. Although the market is competitive, legitimate suppliers do not receive a large enough discount to pass onto the customers.""It is not very expensive when customers understand the value of this product and the importance of the information that it provides for security.""When comparing with other solutions such as Checkpoint and Cisco, Fortinet is priced well.""We found the price of Fortinet FortiAnalyzer to be reasonable.""When you compare with other firewall vendors, FortiAnalyzer is quite competitive in pricing."

"There is a cost for each feature used.""Its pricing is definitely huge compared to some of the other SIEMs. Its price should be improved."
