Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Instant recovery options are a big benefit for urgent restores, as we don't need to wait for hours or days for a restore to complete before being able to access the files.""The most valuable aspect for me is that I don't have to deal with media in terms of tapes like our existing system does.""We are happy with the support provided by Cohesity for the issues we've come across.""The ease of use and the GUI have really been most valuable to us. Configuring the system to do what we need is simple and straight forward and a lot of guesswork has been removed. One of my favorite features with Cohesity is Kroll for Exchange item-level recovery. The software is simple to use and fast.""The most valuable features are the rapid VM restores and the ability to quickly find files and download them directly to my desktop so that I can put them where I need them to be.""Cohesity is extremely easy to use and intuitive.""I like that Cohesity offers the chance to have data on-premises and on the cloud. All the data is automatically sent to the cloud.""We are very satisfied with the product as a whole—all the backup functions, the data protection functions. We are very satisfied with those, and the product is very simple to use."

"The solution is easy to use, flexible and has a lot of out-of-the-box functionality. You can configure the dashboards or you can use a script. However, to fully utilize its capabilities you will want to use a lot of scripts which you will need advanced training. The reports can be customized for many things, such as chargeback billing.""It has a lot of stock reports. I believe over 300 canned reports, which for the most part meet a lot of generic needs.""It generates very detailed reports, which makes things easier when it comes to IT auditing."

Cons
"I think Cohesity could add more platform support. For example, they could improve integration with DB2 or make the integration S3 object storage a little tighter. Some of that stuff could use some work, but overall, it's a relatively comprehensive platform.""The one area where we would like to see additional improvements is with reporting. There are very granular reports from each grid. There are also some built-in reports within Helios (SAS Management Console) that offers basic reporting. However, for complex, large-enterprise environments, a more robust reporting engine that supports detailed audit reporting and enhanced ad hoc reports would be welcome.""We have had our share of minor bugs over the past two years and a few bigger ones.""Many of the reports are basic, at most, and at times we had to open a support ticket to help find or develop a report for our needs.""In terms of what could be improved, it just needs some maturity.""We have Oracle databases running on Linux servers in our environment and we have found the Oracle backups were quite complex to setup.""We would like it to have more capabilities for different kinds of PaaS or SaaS services in the Azure cloud, such as Azure SQL or Azure Cosmos DB.""Better support for legacy platforms would be nice, but we should be moving off those anyway."

More Cohesity DataProtect Cons →

"It's a bit difficult for first-time users.""They should empower their customers with the ability to upgrade this solution as long as it's in the same major release.""There is a steep learning curve to use the interface and to create new reports, this could be made easier. If the solution could provide more drag and drop functionality to build more advanced reports that would be very helpful."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."
  • "I expect the system to probably pay off within the first two years."
  • "Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate."
  • "Pricing, setup costs, etc. are pretty typical. The initial cost for Cohesity was less than other products the we evaluated. Cohesity's pricing does offer benefits as DR target costs are less than other solutions. You are not charged for DataProtect licensing for target DR data consumption."
  • "The pricing model is impressive and very effective."
  • "My advice is to always negotiate for better pricing."
  • "It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive."
  • "The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik."
  • More Cohesity DataProtect Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It's not very expensive — I think the price is fair."
  • "You have to procure the license when you are ordering or quoting for Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS). DPS is bundled with the suite and comes with a license. However, if you purchase NetWorker separately then you will have to procure the license for DPS separately."
