Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Installing Hypervisor is really simple. It's the simplest setup I've ever done before. We used a team to deploy it, and it doesn't take much time, like two or three hours tops.""Ability to move your virtual machines from one host to another.""The solution is extremely user friendly.""The compatibility of the solution is its most valuable feature. It's compatible on almost every cloud these days.""The ability to move a virtual machine while it is running is a big advantage.""It is quite flexible and rugged. It is also easy to understand and user-friendly. It is not as complicated as some of the other solutions. It has its technicalities, but it is easy to understand. You can easily pick up in a short period of time and understand how to manage the infrastructure.""Citrix Hypervisor does a great job overall, such as the virtualization of the host. It's very easy to manage the virtual machine, to create, and configure high availability.""The solution's security is its most valuable aspect."

"It's scalable. Whenever we buy another product other than hardware, it's easily integrated into the virtualization software that we download.""Technical support is great.""The stability is the most valuable aspect of this solution. IBM is the most powerful and stable platform.""A valuable feature of PowerVM is a feature that is used for higher availability plus stream for posting, which is very useful. There's a flash copy feature which we are using. PowerVM itself, I know, helps us to control and manage our Oracle licensing compliance, since it is our hardware partitioning. This is very important. If you use VMware, there will be a licensing issue. This PowerVM is a hardware partitioner, which is very important for license compliance. We are happy with this solution.""It's in English, so its exceptional qualities make the control environment more flexible, easier, more stable, and easy to recover after issues.""The most valuable features in this solution are you do not get degradation in the performance like you could get in other solutions. There is a physical adapter that is better than a virtual one and you can assign adapters to a VM.""The case fileserver on the web server is the most valuable feature.""The most valuable feature is the flexibility in terms of managing the hardware resources such as RAM, CPU, and the network."

Cons
"The main problem with Citrix Hypervisor is getting readily available backup solutions for it. It would be wonderful if Hypervisor were better integrated with third-party backup solutions.""You need a licensed account to look up technical support.""I find that the features in Citrix Hypervisor are not as rich as with VMware. It would be a benefit if they had some of the other features VMware has, such as the ability to expand a drive on the fly. You do not have to take down the machine to do it but in Citrix you do.""The solution should be more flexible and allow for greater customization.""The licensing costs are too high on the solution. They should work to make the costs more reasonable.""I am not very sure about how flexible Citrix Hypervisor is with different types of infrastructures. I only know it is flexible with Nutanix, but I am not sure if it is also flexible with others. They can make its integration with other platforms or OEMs easy. They should also make it easy for users to manage their infrastructure. Citrix should make compatibility information related to a hypervisor easily available in a datasheet. Citrix isn't really recognized in this part of the world, and they need to expand their solution and make it more available. There are a lot of customers and companies that are looking for a solution like Citrix, and it should be available in this part of the world. They need to educate people more. Technically, it is good and flexible and has good ability, but it is not as much known as VMware or Microsoft. Their support should also be improved. Currently, if you don't have an updated version, they will not give you the attention.""Overall, I can't think of a feature that is lacking. We've been pretty satisfied overall.""It needs to have a more robust backup solution."

More Citrix Hypervisor Cons →

"If it could actually virtualize the entire platform it might be better. If you're having more than one virtualization technology, maybe there's a way to actually have less - one technology to run the data center and maybe one special virtualization for power. If it integrated with other platforms more effectively it might be better.""I would like for IBM to be more focuses on the cloud.""The licensing could be better.""The interface is not user-friendly in places, so it could use some improvement.""A GUI version of VIOS would be a great plus for people moving from Intel-based hypervisors.""I don't know whether this has been trialed already, but IBM should give us an alert when we reach seven or eight failovers so that we can automatically switch it to manual mode. That would be great because if we cross the 10-day licensing limit, we have to pay a hefty license cost to Oracle. If IBM could view that feature, it would be helpful in license compliance.""This solution is lacking the ability to have servers act as a cluster, such as in VMware. IBM has come out with a feature similar to VMware's vCenter but it is not as mature. They need to add LPM shared-nothing feature, such as in vMotion.""The performance should be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Citrix is a good low-cost alternative to VMware, so if budgeting is an issue then I would recommend it."
  • "The licensing is straight forward based on usage and features."
  • "I am fine with their license support. What we have right now is permanent, so I don't have a problem with their license."
  • "There is a license required to use this solution. You need a license on every server, but the license is more for support than anything else. The cost is not expensive, it is a fraction of the cost of VMware. When you look at the cost overall and features, Citrix Hypervisor has a very attractive offering."
  • "The cost of this product is not high."

  • "The price varies from case to case and you have to negotiate it for every project."
  • "The license cost is bundled with IBM Power Systems as it is limited to RISC-based IBM systems only."
