Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The Adversity Malware Protection (AMP) feature is the most valuable. It is also very easy to use. Every technical user can operate this solution without any difficulty. The dashboard of Cisco Firepower has every tool that a security operator needs. You can find every resource that you need to operate through this dashboard.""Another benefit has been user integration. We try to integrate our policies so that we can create policies based on active users. We can create policies based on who is accessing a resource instead of just IP addresses and ports.""If you compare the ASA and the FirePOWER, the best feature with FirePOWER is easy to use GUI. It has most of the same functionality in the Next-Generation FirePOWER, such as IPS, IPS policies, security intelligence, and integration and identification of all the devices or hardware you have in your network. Additionally, this solution is user-friendly.""One of the most valuable features is the AMP. It's very good and very reliable when it comes to malicious activities, websites, and viruses.""Its Snort 3 IPS has better flexibility as far as being able to write rules. This gives me better granularity.""When it comes to the integration among Cisco tools, we find it easy. It's a very practical integration with other components as well.""Provides good integrations and reporting.""The integration of network and workload micro-segmentation helps a lot to provide unified segmentation policies across east-west and north-south traffic. One concrete example is with Cisco ACI for the data center. Not only are we doing what is called a service graph on the ACI to make sure that we can filter traffic east-west between two endpoints in the same network, but when we go north-south or east-west, we can then leverage what we have on the network with SGTs on Cisco ISE. Once you build your matrix, it is very easy to filter in and out on east-west or north-south traffic."

"Ability to manage multiple firewalls.""Its stability and SD-WAN features are the most valuable.""Good identity fire walling, malware protection and application control features.""Scalability is good; the company wants to be able to handle large customers.""Its ability to block incoming attacks is valuable. Its logging, traffic monitoring, and VPN capabilities are also valuable.""Their GPS possibilities and the security that it has, especially the SD-WAN functionality, is very good.""Its central management, especially when it comes to distributed environments, is great. I can generate and save a setting and then apply that setting across the network with just one click.""The interface is very user-friendly and it is quite easy to use."

"The cost of the solution is very reasonable.""It is a very good product. The threat monitoring process is the most valuable feature.""The three most important features for us are web protection, web server protection, and network protection.""Efficient and effective - it's easy to separate rules.""The initial setup is pretty easy.""I would recommend UTM over XG because it's easier to manage.""So far, the solution has been problem-free.""The most valuable features of this solution are the firewall application and application control."

Cons
"Report generation is an area that should be improved.""Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized.""My team tells me that other solutions such as Fortinet and Palo Alto are easier to implement.""They need a VTI. I know it's going to be available in the next software version, which is the 6.7 version. However, the problem with that is that the 6.7 is going to deprecate all the older IKEv1 deployment tunnels. Therefore, the problem is that we have a lot of customers which are using older encryptions. If I do that, update it, it's not going to work for me.""It would be great if some of the load times were faster.""The initial setup could be simplified, as it can be complex for new users.""The intelligence has room for improvement. There are some hackers that we haven't seen before and its ability to detect those types of attacks needs to be improved.""We cannot have virtual domains, which we can create with FortiGate. This is something they should add in the future. Additionally, there is a connection limit and the FMC could improve."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons →

"The interface should be more user-friendly and it should be easier to configure.""There is room for improvement in performance and the support language. The support they're providing right now is from a different country, and in our country, there are people—network admins and IT heads—who don't speak English properly. So Barracuda needs to provide support agents who speak additional languages, such as Bangla.""The administration UI could be better. It should also have better application detection policies.""The analytics are weak.""Command line could be more user friendly.""If you have another brand of VPN where you have to put an SSL VPN between two devices, Barracuda doesn't support that at a certain point. You can't actually build the VPN between Barracuda and a different device of a different brand.""If you experience an attack it can take a very long time to find a solution.""Technical support used to be at a very high level but it is now a bit less so."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Cons →

"Sophos should be more user-friendly, have more dashboards, and an easier implementation.""We'd like to see them offer their services on mobile devices like tablets. I'm not sure if that's an option or not.""Monitoring and reporting are areas that need improvement.""There needs to be some improvement in the IPsec VPN. There is implementation only support. I have version one. I'd be most interested in having IP version two from the protocol.""The classification segregation of applications lacks sufficient definition.""The ease of use could be a bit better.""Flexibility in pricing could be improved. It's more rigid in its pricing compared to its competitor: Kaspersky.""Updates come out agonizingly slowly, a trickle."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount."
  • "There are additional implementation and validation costs."
  • "Cisco, as we all know, is expensive, but for the money you are paying, you know that you are also getting top-notch documentation as well as support if needed."
  • "This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection."
  • "This product is expensive."

  • "The price of Firepower is not bad compared to other products."
  • "The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions."
  • More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The solution costs more than 800 Euros to purchase an F18, which is an entry model, and then another 500 Euros for instant replacement, and 500 Euros for energized updates. The total package would be around 1,900 Euros for five years license and all updates for an entry model."
  • "The 600 series is about USD $10,000 a year and the 80 is USD $400 a year."
  • "Its licensing is on a yearly basis. There is an upfront purchase price, and there is also an annual maintenance fee. There are no additional fees."
  • "The pricing is very cheap compared to Cisco ASA, which we used before, and compared to Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet. Barracuda has different solutions for different people. So for my SMB-level infrastructure, Barracuda has given me a proper solution that is half of the price of Palo Alto or Fortinet."

  • "This product is free for home users. The more expensive products have better performance."
  • "I think the pricing of Sophos is very fair."
