Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"You do not have to do everything through a command line which makes it a lot easier to apply rules.""The Firepower+ISE+AMP for endpoint integration is something that really stands it out with other vendor solutions. They have something called pxGrid and i think it is already endorsed by IETF. This allows all devices on the network to communicate.""The most valuable features of this solution are advanced malware protection, IPS, and IDS.""When it comes to the integration among Cisco tools, we find it easy. It's a very practical integration with other components as well.""We get the Security Intelligence Feeds refreshed every hour from Talos, which from my understanding is that they're the largest intelligence Security Intelligence Group outside of the government.""The implementation is pretty straightforward.""One of the nice things about Firepower is that you can set it to discover the environment. If that is happening, then Firepower is learning about every device, software operating system, and application running inside or across your environment. Then, you can leverage the discovery intelligence to get Firepower to select the most appropriate intrusion prevention rules to use for your environment rather than picking one of the base policies that might have 50,000 IPS rules in it, which can put a lot of overhead on your firewall. If you choose the recommendations, as long as you update them regularly, you might be able to get your rule set down to only 1,000 or 1,500, which is a significant reduction in a base rule set. This means that the firewall will give you better performance because there are less rules being checked unnecessarily. That is really useful.""One of the most valuable features of Firepower 7.0 is the "live log" type feature called Unified Event Viewer. That view has been really good in helping me get to data faster, decreasing the amount of time it takes to find information, and allowing me to fix problems faster. I've found that to be incredibly valuable because it's a lot easier to get to some points of data now."

"Its ability to block incoming attacks is valuable. Its logging, traffic monitoring, and VPN capabilities are also valuable.""Their GPS possibilities and the security that it has, especially the SD-WAN functionality, is very good.""Its stability and SD-WAN features are the most valuable.""Scalability is good; the company wants to be able to handle large customers.""Good identity fire walling, malware protection and application control features.""The interface is very user-friendly and it is quite easy to use.""Ability to manage multiple firewalls.""What I like best about this product are the support and the features."

"WildFire's application encryption is useful.""The solution has plenty of features.""What I like about Palo Alto is that it is a complete product, with everything in it.""The most valuable feature of this solution is how it keeps up-to-date with viruses.""Using WildFire has reduced the number of viruses and the amount of malware that comes into our system, which means that I don't have to rely on the end-users to identify it.""The most valuable feature for us is the VPN.""The solution is completely integrated with all the other Palo Alto products. I think that it is the best part for endpoint protection. The firewall features include URL and DNS filtering, threat protection, and antivirus.""The backup is the best feature."

Cons
"One of the few things that are brought up is that for the overall management, it would be great to have a cloud instance of that. And not only just a cloud instance, but one of the areas that we've looked at is using an HA type of cloud. To have the ability to have a device file within a cloud. If we had an issue with one, the other one would pick up automatically.""The solution could offer better control that would allow the ability to restrictions certain features from a website.""The change-deployment time can always be improved. Even at 50 seconds, it's longer than some of its competitors. I would challenge Cisco to continue to improve in that area.""The initial setup could be simplified, as it can be complex for new users.""There is limited data storage on the appliance itself. So, you need to ship it out elsewhere in order for you to store it. The only point of consideration is around that area, basically limited storage on the machine and appliance. Consider logging it elsewhere or pushing it out to a SIEM to get better controls and manipulation over the data to generate additional metrics and visibility.""The configuration in Firepower Management Center is very slow. Deployment takes two to three minutes. You spend a lot of time on modifications. Whereas, in FortiGate, you press a button, and it takes one second.""Cisco makes horrible UIs, so the interface is something that should be improved.""The central management tool is not comfortable to use. You need to have a specific skill set. This is an important improvement for management because I would like to log into Firepower, see the dashboard, and generate a real-time report, then I question my team."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons →

"The analytics are weak.""Technical support used to be at a very high level but it is now a bit less so.""The administration UI could be better. It should also have better application detection policies.""The biggest issue that I have with this solution is that it is not super intuitive. Once you know what to do, things make sense, but you can't just open the program and start doing things. It would be great if there was a little bit more guided usage inside the program.""If you experience an attack it can take a very long time to find a solution.""If you have another brand of VPN where you have to put an SSL VPN between two devices, Barracuda doesn't support that at a certain point. You can't actually build the VPN between Barracuda and a different device of a different brand.""Command line could be more user friendly.""There is room for improvement in performance and the support language. The support they're providing right now is from a different country, and in our country, there are people—network admins and IT heads—who don't speak English properly. So Barracuda needs to provide support agents who speak additional languages, such as Bangla."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Cons →

"Management and web filtering can be improved. There should also be better reporting, particularly around web filtering.""The price of WildFire should be reduced in order to make it more affordable for our customers.""The size of Palo Alto's cloud is big but it could be easier to use from a product management perspective.""The only complaint that we receive from our customers is in regards to the price.""The support is good but they could be faster.""The threat intelligence that we receiving in the reporting was not as expected. We were expecting more. Additionally, we should be able to whitelist a specific file based on a variety of attributes.""The cost of the solution is excessively high.""The configuration should be made a little bit easier. I understand why it is as it is, but there should be a way to make it easier from the user side."

  • More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The solution costs more than 800 Euros to purchase an F18, which is an entry model, and then another 500 Euros for instant replacement, and 500 Euros for energized updates. The total package would be around 1,900 Euros for five years license and all updates for an entry model."
  • "The 600 series is about USD $10,000 a year and the 80 is USD $400 a year."
  • "Its licensing is on a yearly basis. There is an upfront purchase price, and there is also an annual maintenance fee. There are no additional fees."
  • "The pricing is very cheap compared to Cisco ASA, which we used before, and compared to Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet. Barracuda has different solutions for different people. So for my SMB-level infrastructure, Barracuda has given me a proper solution that is half of the price of Palo Alto or Fortinet."

  • "We pay between $3,000 and $4,000 CAD ($2,200 - $3,000 USD) per year to maintain this solution."
  • "This solution is very pricey and it depends on the package that you implement."

  • "The price is a bit higher than the other products such as TrendMicro, or FireEye."
  • "Pricing could be improved."
  • "We are on an annual subscription. When we purchased the firewall, we had activated this solutions license for a minimum of one year. The price of the solution is fair."
