Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution has a lot of strong features for the financial industry, it is very easy to use.""It's heavy on business processing in terms of logic, process workflows, and primarily on the process design modeler. Appian is really great at that. In terms of the full stack set from a low-code platform perspective, it's definitely an eye opener since it can be deployed via mobile app and on the web as well.""Form building capabilities and well thought out process modelling are key points to this product.""Appian also has very flexible local integration.""In terms of interface, it's very good. In terms of infrastructure, it's amazing and already using multiple tools behind the scenes. It's a low-code platform, so it's very easy to implement.""Compared to other code tools that I've seen, Appian has a more robust rules engine""The solution's most valuable features are the regular periodic and quarterly updates, they are very useful updates. They keep improving the solution more often, and that helps the platform or code always be up to date with the latest features.""It provides us with real-time data on all connected systems in terms of how they're integrated with each other and how they are performing in a workflow manner."

"I have a lot of experience in this kind of industry, and Pega is one of the best solutions in terms of performance, capabilities, and the way we develop.""It's a good tool for workflow automation.""The solution provides us with a very good dashboard.""It is quite configurable, which is the most exciting feature. We can easily configure it as per our needs.""The initial setup is pretty straightforward.""The most valuable feature is flexibility, as we can configure it to best suit our requirements.""The workflow designing and integration are the most valuable features. Also, the UI design was pretty easy.""The ability to define processes, build reports, and get insights or analytics on data is most valuable. It is a powerful platform."

Cons
"Lacks business rules management as part of the solution.""There are four areas I believe Appian could improve in. The first is a seamless contact center integration. Appian does not have a contact center feature. The second is advanced features in RPA. The third would be chatbot and email bot integration—while Appian comes with chatbot and email bot, it's not as mature as it should be, compared to the competition. The fourth area would be next best action, since there is not much of this sort of feature in Appian. These are all features which competitors' products have, and in a mature manner, whereas Appian lacks on these four areas. I see customers who are moving from Appian to Pega because these features are not in Appian.""Lacks integration with other products.""The solution could improve robotic process automation.""The graphical user interface could be easier to use. It should be simplified.""They should provide more flexibility so designers can create a more picture perfect device.""I would like to see more complete university tools. For example, with UiPath, I have had a good experience related to a free course in order to provide some users some different levels of knowledge. This extra training helps users not only use the solution but to develop further within the tool.""The solution could improve by being more responsive when dealing with large quantities of data. Additionally, they can make the decision or rules engine better. It cannot handle too many rules or too many decisions at once."

"We have experienced a few technical challenges, particularly triggering the workflow through file drops and accessing files.""Reporting is not so clear and not so great. We really struggle to get the right reporting. When we need reporting based on the content of the tickets, we are not able to get it. The MIS reporting is not great. That's one of the reasons why we are switching to ServiceNow. Its compatibility with the higher versions of Internet Explorer should be improved. It really works well in Mozilla Firefox or any other browser, but when it comes to Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer, sometimes, the layout gets disturbed. The positioning of the buttons changes, and there is some distortion in the layout. I am not sure whether it is our configuration problem or Pega's, but when it is working in Mozilla Firefox, it should also work in Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer.""Sometimes when we are patching some data from the database, we are getting added as a timeout.""It needs more integration with other platforms.""The main problem with Pega is that it is quite complex, so it is very difficult for the developer to learn.""There are some UX shortcomings within the solution. However, it's my understanding that they have addressed them and in the next three months they will come out with a new updated version. They will be moving away from HTML5.""From a technical point of view, it would be helpful to have some advanced analytics to help with configuration. We have a lot of unwanted features and it would be good to configure it more appropriately so that we are using just exactly what we need.""Compared to other BPM products, the interface is somewhat complex, so the usability could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The solution offers a monthly subscription model. That's what we use. I recall it being about $90 a month. They do have different tiers."
  • "It's an enterprise tool and can be used by enterprise only. So it's a very expensive tool."
  • "The licensing will be on a monthly basis. We are estimating that cost to be around $2000 to maybe $3,000 per month. We don't foresee any costs above that."
  • "The pricing can be a little confusing to customers."
  • "The price of this solution is a little high here in Mongolia."
  • "The license is a bit expensive and the pricing model is sometimes confusing for new users or business users. It is difficult for them to know what volume of usage they will have to be able to purchase the best-suited license at the beginning."
  • "Appian is very flexible in their pricing. In general, Appian's pricing is much, much lower when compared to competition like Pega or other products. Appian also has a flexible licensing model across geographies. Pega usually goes with a single licensing cost—which is a US-based cost—for all global customers, and it's costly. Whereas Appian has a different regional licensing cost model and it can be cheaper, depending on geography. So Appian's licensing is very flexible, and cheaper when compared to other competition."
  • "You can't really test the software properly without actually buying the license first."

  • "The price of this solution, including installation and configuration, is comparable to competing vendors."
  • "The pricing is pretty good, compared to other similar products."
  • "It's a user-based license where, as you scale the numbers of users, the price increases."
  • "It is cost-effective for medium enterprises. It is cheaper than ServiceNow."
  • "The solution could be less expensive according to my customers. However, I think the price of the solution is fair."
  • "We mostly have a yearly license."
  • "The price is a bit expensive."
  • "Pricing is good."
