Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Among the most valuable features are the queries and reporting that allow us to look at the utilization of resources, at how well the storage is performing, and to report on which resources are being used by which business units. We can track usage across the entire environment, across applications, business units, cost centers, etc.""Its ability to quickly inventory our resources, figure out interdependencies across them, and assemble a topology of your environment is brilliant. There is a price associated with it. Whenever you target a NetApp environment, it is included in the price but whenever you want to add different vendors, like VMware and Cisco, the price greatly spikes. Inventorization helps us a lot to visualize the environment.""Cloud Secure is definitely the most valuable feature and being able to see file level activity. It gives real-time alerting on possible ransomware attacks and provides file security review. It helps us to see if something abnormal is happening on the system before it's too late.""It is good for giving an overview of the systems and for tracking long-term trends. It is handy for root cause analysis, e.g. it can eliminate whether storage is the cause of an issue."

"The solution gives us very good real-time data.""The solution offers very detailed metrics for their services.""You can enable alarms and metrics, and it has robust integration with AWS services. You can also trigger events. For example, if the CPU utilization is above 80%, it can launch a new instance for you.""Most of it's around optimizing utilization, their cloud utilization. They're making sure that they're getting the most out of their in-cloud environments and their instances. Making sure that there's no strange behavior in the environment.""The solution is easy to use."

"The solution is easy to install and it takes a couple of hours.""The solution is extremely stable. We haven't had any issues in that regard. We haven't had issues with bugs, glitches, or crashes.""The most valuable feature is the way it monitors the environment, and how user-friendly the console is for the end-user. The interface is also very easy and it captures all the information very well.""It did a good job of the collection and then an investigation of the net flow of information for understanding the applications that were being used at certain locations.""Can easily be interconnected with other management systems.""The most valuable feature is the graphical user interface.""As we look to add more servers to our virtual environment and to understand the impact, the solution allows us to dig into the historical charts related to capacity planning.""Technical support has always been great. They are very responsive. We've been satisfied with their level of support."

Cons
"There is room for improving the creating and managing or modifying of reports. That is still a difficult task to do and requires knowledge beyond the storage itself. I would love to see reporting improved so that we can create reports by dragging and dropping pieces into a report form and publish a report that way.""When I did need support because I was having problems with the solution, the first or the second line just didn't understand it. They were providing this only on a software as a service basis. So, they were asking all the wrong questions.""Their pricing model needs improvement.""In a perfect world we would have something built, right out-of-the-box, that can identify what we call "noise," and reduce the amount of data. You're presented with so much data when you first start the data collectors. For example, it brings back a lot of change rates that happen just because of standard computing, like profile changes and that sort of thing. Being able to identify things like that and categorize them and strip it down—and it probably can do that, I just haven't gotten there yet—would be very beneficial."

More NetApp Cloud Insights Cons →

"For monitoring applications or for APM, CloudWatch has some limitations. You cannot monitor application performance from CloudWatch, and you have to go for a third-party tool.""Better reporting is always something needed. That could be an answer to just about anything. But you always want better reporting, better dashboards, things that are just more dynamic and more accessible.""The drill-down aspect on the dashboard of the solution needs improvement. We get a very good high-level overview, but when we drill down, it becomes a little less clear. We have given this feedback to AWS as well and hope they will improve this in the future.""Right now, in relation to monitoring services, there are too many services and too many metrics per service.""The configuration capabilities could be better."

More Amazon CloudWatch Cons →

"Sometimes there are issues when upgrading to a new version of the product.""The only thing that can be improved is to continually add to the existing capabilities of the product.""SolarWinds needs to be improved such that it is on par with the leading products in the market.""It would be good to have high security.""An area for improvement would be the use of modular licenses, which are not practical for big clients.""Complex and overly detailed setup.""Technical support can be slow to respond.""The solution's network discovery and node addition processes need more work."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The licensing model could be improved. We love that you can use it for free for looking at NetApp products. You only need licenses to look at non-NetApp products, but as soon as you do that, you start utilizing licenses that actually would have been free in the public. So, there is a bit of an anomaly in the licensing model."
  • "Be aware of the capacity licensing and understand how that works, because it is based on capacity. Getting an understanding of that is the biggest thing."
  • More NetApp Cloud Insights Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "We have monthly licensing costs. The licenses are probably in the vicinity of about $300 - $350/month."
  • "Its pricing is reasonable. It is sometimes tricky, but it is reasonable as compared to others."
  • More Amazon CloudWatch Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is relatively inexpensive compared to other products in the same category."
  • "It's expensive and there are costs in addition to the standard licensing."
  • "The price is more expensive than some other products, such as ManageEngine."
  • "I find that the pricing is acceptable."
  • "USD $15,000 annually for maintenance."
  • "It is not an expensive product."
  • "It is too expensive."
  • "The licensing is based on the number of nodes, interfaces, and volumes."
